FCC Seeks Comment on Additional Opportunities to Protect and Empower Consumers in Communications MarketplaceThis is from Thursday's Release:

Today’s Notice asks questions about the information available to consumers at each stage of the purchasing process: (1) choosing a provider, (2) choosing a service plan, (3) managing use of the service plan, and (4) deciding whether and when to switch an existing provider or plan for all communications services, including wireline voice and wireless services, as well as broadband and subscription video (cable and satellite). This is another chance to get the FCC involved in our situation based on the facts that no one here see an itemized bill of service, we are unable to manage the service plan, most of us didn't received proper disclosure of all the details of the contract and the fact that the developer was profiting from the contract while having full control of the board of directors of the homeowners assoc.
Consumer input can make a diference in future regulation

As a board member of an association that represents the people of our community, I have strived to have the FCC help in our communities behalf.  Our Florida State Rep (Mr Cliff Stearns) also has indicated that what is happening is not right for our people and has written (so he stated) to the chief of the FCC.
Our community, Palm Cay (Ocala, Florida) is served by a cable company (Cablevision of Marion County) that bills each of the 700 plus homes monthly. It does not matter if you want the service or not. It does not matter if you even live in the home (this is a senior resident community).
If you fail to pay one month, the late fee is added ($10.00) monthly and some home owners are now over $300.00 in debt due to refusal to pay for a service they don'y use.

Do we have to wait until a lien is placed on their home before action is taken?

Can (or will) anyone have the courage to step up against this unfair consumer practice?  The homes are all bulk billed and the cable company is not inclusive in our association fee.

Someone PLEASE help these senior citizens by simply offering a choice of what TV reception they prefer.  This is not a complaint against cable... but is a complaint about forced use of a product that some people don't use or want.

Respectfully Submitted

Harry, great comments it will be great if you can file this on the FCC docket 09-158 and 07-51 http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/ecfs/comsrch_v2.cgi .

I share your frustration but at least the FCC opened this new inquiry into consumer protection. We need to do our part.  We need to let them know that they have another proceeding open and is waiting for them to act.
